For the second time, Le Méridien Dhaka (Bangladesh) celebrated the International Coffee Day with the Italian coffee roasting company, ‘illy’ on September 29. The celebration was held recently in the hotel’s signature lobby lounge bar Latitude 23, says a press release.

Guests enjoyed a morning of various art lessons with latte art tutorials, learning to outline images in coffee foams guided by expert baristas, as well as designing their own éclairs with various edible props (toppings) and piped frostings under the supervision of pastry chefs.

Other guests participated in group art, painting with coalesced coffee on canvas, a work that is to be showcased as a reminder of the day in the lounge.

International Coffee Day has been commemorated in various nations for many years, though 2015 is the first year for the festivity to be recognised officially, receiving sanction from International Coffee Organisation (ICO).

While the official date has been announced for October 1, Le Méridien Dhaka began the festivities on September 29, as a tribute to the original celebratory date.

As the hotel believes that a coffeehouse atmosphere in their lobby space engages creative minds and generates an environment founded on conversation, exchange and debate, which precisely Latitude 23 aims to provide.

Walking with the idea the hotel arranged a programme where guests participated in the discussion on the evolution of the coffee culture in Bangladesh, where Alyson Haye, Assistant Food & Beverage Manager, Le Méridien Dhaka, addressed to the coffee lovers described the significance of taking coffee in day to day life.

She also emphasised on the importance of the day.

Hotel’s pastry chef Shahid invited the guests to taste blend of real coffee. Md Rajon Hasan Manager Marketing of North End Coffee Roaster informed the guests about the emerging coffee farming at the hill track in Bangladesh.

Considering it as one of the most verbose trend in upcoming years which would open new path for even the socio economic development, guests were enamored.
