BRUSSELS, Belgium – The CEO of Löfbergs, Lars Appelqvist, has been appointed to the board of directors of the European interbranch organisation FoodDrinkEurope. Lars was nominated by the national interbranch organisations in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Estonia.
– The seat on the board is an acknowledgement for Löfbergs, Swedish food industry and me personally. It means that we are at the table when matters that are crucial for the industry are being discussed in Brussels, says Lars Appelqvist, CEO of Löfbergs.
FoodDrinkEurope is an interbranch organisation that covers the entire European food industry. Today, FoodDrinkEurope consists of 74 members, of which 25 are national interbranch organisations such as The Swedish Food Federation. The rest are specialist interbranch organisations within coffee, dairy, brewery, meat and plant-based food. Some of the largest companies in the industry are members too.
– FoodDrinkEurope represents the industry in many bodies at an EU level in order to create good terms for all food companies in Europe. This includes covering and influencing the development in EU policy and legislation as well as coordinating the standpoints and priorities of the industry, says Lars Appelqvist.
New food strategy
In the coming years, a lot of the EU agenda relating to foods will focus on sustainability matters, for example trough the food strategy that the European commission will present shortly. It will contain investments on research and new initiatives in food labelling.
– The industry needs to unite and provide constructive input in the various parts, in order for the strategy to function as an engine for a competitive and sustainable food industry in Europe in the long term, says Lars Appelqvist.
