BRA, Italy – Again for 2013, Lavazza has reconfirmed its role as a main sponsor of Cheese, the event devoted to high-quality dairy products, to further reinforce its successful partnership with Slow Food.

Cheese took place took place Bra, Piedmont on September 20-23.

The partnership has been ongoing since 1996, the year the company first participated at the Salone del Gusto, and it has always seen Lavazza at the forefront in training in the field of gastronomy and in circulating the food quality principles it shares with Slow Food: good, clean and fair.

In tandem with the Slow Food movement and its founder Carlo Petrini, the Turin-based company is championing the shared idea that is accomplished by safeguarding cultural identities related to culinary traditions.

Therefore, Lavazza shares Cheese ’s goal of circulating the culture of dairy products, offering event visitors the chance to try the delicious combination of coffee and milk in all its interpretations.

Throughout the four-day event, Lavazza offered its coffee ¡Tierra!, 100% from sustainable cultivation, certified by the NGO Rainforest Alliance and arising from the sustainability project conducted independently by the company since 2002, involving six communities of caficultores in Honduras, Peru Colombia, Brazil, India and Tanzania.

Focused on three key aspects — the quality of the end product, attention to the living conditions of the populations of coffee-growing countries and environmental protection — the ¡Tierra! project has seen three South American communities in Peru, Honduras and Colombia, involved in the first project ended in 2009, become autonomous, successfully capitalising on the social, training and environmental initiatives implemented.

The work currently under way in the three areas of Brazil, India and Tanzania are guiding the communities towards achieving this important goal.

The Lavazza café — in Piazza XX Settembre in Bra (Cuneo) — offered visitors classic coffee recipes: espresso, cappuccino and macchiato, as well as the most popular hot and cold beverages created by the Training Center, all made with the 100% sustainable blend ¡Tierra!

There were also two new products presented at Cheese: Caffellatte Lavazza with butter and vanilla and Lavazza Espresso Fior di Latte, two brand-new reinterpretations of local recipes that reflect all the company’s values: tradition, innovation, sustainability and, naturally, flavour.

For this year’s Cheese, Lavazza has collaborated with the Caseificio Valle Stura, using its 3 B (Bontà, Benessere di Bianca: goodness and well-being from Bianca) high-quality milk produced by herds of the native Bianca Piemontese cattle breed.

The proceeds from the sale of Lavazza coffee will go to the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity in favour of the A Thousand Gardens in Africa project.
