MELBOURNE – Pura Milk and the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE2014) will host a Latte Art Smackdown at Southern Cross Station this Friday 2 May.

The coffee world’s equivalent of a battle, a latte art smackdown is where pairs of baristas go head-to-head, each pouring their best latte art. Three judges point to their favourite design. The baristas are eliminated in a ladder-style format until one remains.

These smackdowns have been popular in the underground specialty coffee scene for the past few years. This will be the first time Melbourne’s public will have an opportunity to witness the competition in the open air.

The competition will be held from 730am to 930am at Southern Cross Station on 2 May, during peak morning traffic. The barista’s art will be filmed live and screened on massive plasma screen televisions. Mocopan Coffee will be providing fantastic coffee and equipment on the day.

The Pura Milk Smackdown is helping to celebrate the World Latte Art Championships that is taking place at MICE2014 from 15 – 18 May 2014 at the Melbourne Showgrounds. Organisers will be giving away free tickets to MICE during the open air smackdown.

MICE is one of the world’s largest coffee trade events, attracting top baristas and coffee professionals from around the globe to take part in coffee competitions, while checking out the latest coffee gadgets, beans and services. For more information visit www.internationalcoffeeexpo.com.
