MELBOURNE, Australia – After three long years, the Melbourne International Coffee Expo – MICE2022 finally returned to bring the industry together. With support from sponsors ST. ALi, Espresso Mechanics, MILKLAB, Global Coffee Report, Cafetto and made by Fressko, MICE2022 truly was worth the wait.
15,056 attendees visited the expo over the four days to taste, try and buy all the coffee, equipment and ancillary café requirements from POS systems and furniture, to milk and cups.
This makes MICE one of the most attended trade, coffee-specific expos in the world.
MICE2022 featured heavily in mainsteam media across the week, with ABC News Breakfast, The Today Show, Channel Nine News, SBS News, SBS Mandarin, SBS Italian, Channel Seven News, The Age, GoodFood and more all covering the event.
MICE2023 will take place from 17 to 19 August, next year.
Australian barista champion Anthony Douglas crowned world’s best
Anthony Douglas, who was crowned as World Barista Champion, Anthony, from Axil Coffee Roasters, is the first Barista Champion to take out the title on home soil.
“It’s such an honour to win the World Barista Championship, something I don’t take for granted,” says Anthony.
“I’m incredibly proud of myself and the team. I’ve been competing in the Australian Coffee Championship for the past seven years, trying to win, which is hard enough, and we finally got there.”
Taiwan wins World Brewers Cup
Shih Yuan Hsu (Sherry) from Taiwan took out the title of World Brewers Cup Champion, beating the United States and Singapore. “I’m still feeling nervous, the reality hasn’t set in yet. But I really enjoyed the stage and had a lot of fun. I’m still in shock,” says Sherry.
MICE2022 Product Innovation Award winners announced
The MICE2022 Product Innovation Awards recognised outstanding products in three categories – Coffee Preparation Equipment, Ancillary Electrical Equipment and Coffee Accessories – as well as a People’s Choice category.
The winners were:
- Coffee Preparation Equipment – LaCimbali M200 (Service Sphere)
- Ancillary Electrical Equipment – Prometheus (Eureka Conti Valerio SRL)
- Coffee Accessories – Compass (Nucleus Coffee Tools)
- People’s Choice – Unifilter (Weber Workshops)
