JAKARTA, Indonesia – A coffee shop inspired by the critically acclaimed movie Filosofi Kopi (Coffee Philosophy) has recently opened in Thamrin, Central Jakarta.
The Filosofi Kopi coffee shop is said to be part of a collaboration between the film and Artotel Thamrin and will continue with the opening of similar businesses in Artotel Surabaya in May and Artotel Sanur in Bali in July.
Patrons visiting the place can expect to enjoy freshly brewed coffee from the shop’s three original coffee beans, namely Lestari, an Arabica from Kintamani in Bali with medium to high acidity, Perfecto from Ijen in East Java, recommended for people who like espresso-based coffee, and Tiwus from Pengalengan in West Java, a coffee that offers a unique dark chocolate taste
The shop also offers other varieties of coffee, from Kopi Tubruk to café latte.
“I’m very enthusiastic about this collaboration. As a first step, we started with Artotel Thamrin. Soon, Filosofi Kopi will be available in all Artotels throughout Indonesia,” said the hotel’s CEO Erasmus Radjimin in a press release.
Directed by Angga Dwimas Sasongko, Filosofi Kopi is based on a novel written by Dee Lestari.
It narrates the struggle of two friends, Ben (Chico Jerikho) and Jody (Rio Dewanto), in keeping their coffee shop business alive while at the same time confronting personal issues.
The shop’s first location in the Melawai business district of Blok M in South Jakarta served as the actual filming location. It later opened a second location in Bintaro, South Tangerang, and is slated to operate a third in March in Yogyakarta, which is also set to be the shooting location for the sequel, Filosofi Kopi The Movie 2.
