CHICAGO, U.S. — This past week, NAMA joined forces with Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA); American Beverage Association (ABA); National Confectioners Association (NCA); and SNAC International to submit a request to Scott Gottlieb, FDA’s Commissioner of Food and Drugs regarding a ruling, specifically on font size for Front of Pack Labeling, as well as enforcement discretion until the ruling is made.

According to the request: On behalf of the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA), the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) … we are writing to request that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA or Agency) exercise enforcement discretion with respect to specific provisions of the Calorie Labeling of Articles of Food in Vending Machines final rule until FDA makes the technical amendments to this rule to which it has committed.

“NAMA appreciates FDA’s willingness to work together on this issue. We trust that at the end of the day, OMB and FDA will agree on a solution that is reasonable for all,” said Eric Dell, NAMA’s Senior Vice President of External Affairs.

“Front of pack labeling continues to be very significant to the entire industry and consumers alike, involving signage for gum, mints, rolled candy and multi-serving packages,” said Eric Dell, NAMA’s Senior Vice President, External Affairs.

“Working together with the coalition partners, we’re making progress on behalf of the industry,” he continued. “We have requested a response by June 5 and look forward to a resolution moving forward.”
