LONDON, UK – University students interested in a legal career can now have a taste of life as lawyer, thanks to a new mentoring programme launched by Group Legal at Nestlé UK and Ireland.
The scheme will enable students and recent graduates from the University of Greenwich’s School of Law to receive guidance from lawyers working at Nestlé UK and Ireland and White & Case LLP about career opportunities offered by a law degree.
The programme kicked off with a launch event at White & Case’s London offices to match students with their professional mentors.
Mentors will meet with the students to share their professional expertise and experience as well as offering insight into their careers.
The programme forms part of Nestlé’s Alliance for YOUth scheme which provides work experience and training for young people across Europe.
Commenting Heather Fox, Senior Counsel, Group Legal, Nestlé UK and Ireland said: “We are delighted to be working with the University of Greenwich and White & Case on a programme to support the Alliance for Youth initiative which we see as being a mutually beneficial experience for both mentors and mentees.”
Siraat Rangari, a 2016 LLB graduate from Greenwich, said: “I was absolutely ecstatic when I was offered a mentor, as well as an invitation to an evening where I could network with high-profile lawyers. I view it as a fantastic opportunity to receive precious guidance on careers in law, and I’m pleased to be part of the first year of the scheme.”
The mentoring programme adds to the strong employability ethos in place at Greenwich, according to Sally Gill, Principal Lecturer and Director of the university’s Legal Advice Centre.
Sally added: “I am delighted that we have been able to work with our partners on this mentoring scheme. Many of our students are the first in their families to go to university: a scheme like this really makes a difference to diversity within the legal profession, and ensures that our students compete on a more level playing field.”
Jacquelyn MacLennan, White & Case Partner and Global Pro Bono Practice Leader said: “As an Alliance for YOUth partner, White & Case is very excited to work with Nestlé UK & I, Group Legal to launch the mentoring programme with the School of Law at the University of Greenwich.
White & Case is committed to supporting Nestlé’s Alliance for YOUth initiative and looks forward to helping guide young lawyers on the path to their legal careers.”
