Nestlé is piloting a new system that could help it meet its ‘Zero Deforestation’ commitment. Satellite and radar images will look at what is happening in parts of Nestlé’s palm oil supply chain.
The technology is provided by Airbus, through a unique partnership with The Forest Trust (TFT) and radar specialists SarVision. It is the first time this kind of system will be made available to food companies, with Nestlé an early adopter.
It will support Nestlé’s existing efforts to identify where deforestation is occurring and help us understand if it is connected to its supply chain.
In 2010, Nestlé made a ‘no deforestation’ commitment, stating that all of its products, globally, will not be associated with deforestation by 2020.
