HAMBURG, Germany – Green coffee service group Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG) announces the expansion of its collaboration with GrainPro to introduce a convenient recycling initiative for Europe-based coffee roasters. This program, facilitated by NKG Kala Hamburg, underscores the companies’ shared commitment to sustainability in the coffee industry.
Building on the success of a similar initiative launched by Neumann Gruppe USA and GrainPro in the United States, the European program enables roasters to recycle used GrainPro Hermetic Bags and other coffee liners by delivering them to the NKG Kala Hamburg warehouse, either in person or via their preferred shipping service.
From there, the materials are prepared for processing at an approved recycling facility. Unlike other recycling methods, such as the yellow bag or yellow bin system in Germany, this method recycles not only parts of the waste but the entire product.
Since its introduction in the U.S. in August 2023, the NGUS-GrainPro partnership has diverted more than 11 tons of used coffee liners from landfills. With the expansion to Europe, NKG and GrainPro aim to replicate this success and further contribute to reducing waste in the coffee supply chain. The initiative is supported by NKG’s European import and trading companies and reflects NKG’s broader efforts to support a more sustainable coffee ecosystem.
