TRIESTE, Italy – illycaffè presents #ONEMAKESTHEDIFFERENCE (One Makes The Difference), the new initiative that is part of its global sustainability plan and which will lead the company to becoming carbon neutral by 2033: the first step is the elimination of about 175 tons of plastic per year.
With #ONEMAKESTHEDIFFERENCE, illycaffè confirms its commitment to creating a sustainable business model capable of finding competitive advantages for the business while integrating social and environmental objectives.
Aware that the challenges presented while striving for a more sustainable world can only be overcome by working together, illy thus launches a new initiative. This initiative will begin in July of 2020, showing how sustainable quality helps protect and improve the well-being of the planet and to remind consumers that everyone’s actions can make a difference.
Through the use of the best technologies and research applied to raw materials and production processes, illycaffè has implemented a multi-year program for the development of products that are increasingly environmentally friendly and represented by the hashtag #ONEMAKESTHEDIFFERENCE.
Beginning in July 2020, the new eco-friendly disposable items, starting with recyclable to go cups, will be available in illy bars, illy Caffè direct stores, and in vending channels. The use of these to go cups will allow for a reduction in the use of plastic equal to 175 tons per year.
As of October, the new X1 ESE & Ground coffee machine will be on the market, equipped with a technology that enables it to dispense coffee, steam, and hot water immediately, avoiding the waiting times linked to reaching the correct temperature. After each use, the machine instantly goes into standby mode, thereby ensuring significant energy savings. This machine also combines two methods of coffee preparation which are environmentally sustainable: the new ESE compostable paper pods and ground coffee. All of the materials used in the construction of the machine were carefully researched and chosen to last over time. Even the packaging follows all of the guidelines for being eco-friendly.
Over the next few years, the #ONEMAKESTHEDIFFERENCE initiative will continue developing other sustainable products, so as to offer solutions that competently respond to consumer needs, using fewer material and energy resources, with a consequent lower environmental impact.
