KENDAL, United Kingdom – John Farrer & Co of Kendal, the UK’s oldest coffee roastery, has launched a new addition to its ‘Signature’ speciality coffee collection, which will be available from the 01st of November. Farrer’s ‘Signature’ speciality coffee collection complements the company’s core range, adding carefully selected small-batch seasonal single-origin offerings from sustainable and responsible farms around the world.

The ‘ Signature’ collection celebrates the very best coffee grown by small-scale dedicated farmers who share Farrer’s passion for what they create. Every coffee selected has been painstakingly handpicked and selected by Farrer’s roadsters to provide their customers with access to premium coffees from among the most sought-after coffee crops produced by small single-estate plantations.

The latest addition being added to the range is:

Burundi Kibingo Natural is produced by Kibingo Washing Station in northern Burundi and is used by 3,515 locally registered coffee growers who are spread across 18 hills in the region. Alongside processing coffee, the washing station also acts as a support hub for the farmers associated with it. This single-origin coffee is bursting with flavours of dried cherry and raspberry, with hints of strawberry, citrus and apple. It has a balanced acidity and a decadent sweetness reminiscent of chocolate cake.

Burundi Kibingo Natural is priced at £12.99 per 250g bag (RRP).

Each Farrer’s Signature coffee is available as a whole bean or pre-ground, packed in a resealable bag, and is available to purchase through Farrer’s website for a limited time only. To place an order visit: http://farrerscoffee.co.uk

Che Oxenham, Farrer’s Head Roaster commented: ‘‘Burundi Kibingo scores extremely highly with a coffee cupping score of 84.5. I’ve specially selected this particular coffee because of its distinctive and unique flavour profile. Which contains flavours of dried cherry and raspberry, with hints of strawberry, citrus and apple, as well as a balanced acidity and a decadent sweetness reminiscent of chocolate cake”.

Che Oxehnham continues: “Each coffee I select is produced by a small-scale producer, who like us, are proud of what they create. Each farmer has an interesting back story, they support their local communities and produce their coffees sustainability and responsibly, which is hugely important to us. I hope you enjoy Kibingo and I’m look forward to selecting our next batch of single-origin coffees for you to try in the coming months.’’

Grain de Sail unveils the future of decarbonized maritime transport with the world’s largest wind-powered container ship

PARIS, France – Grain de Sail, a pioneer in decarbonized maritime logistics and trasport, has announced plans to construct its third cargo sailboat, the Grain de Sail III. This pure sailing vessel will be a 360-foot container ship, slated for launch in 2027, capable of transporting approximately 200 twenty-foot equivalent units with a maximum cargo capacity of 3,000 metric tons and crossing the Atlantic in just around 13 days.

“With Grain de Sail III, we are displaying our ambitions and strengthening our leadership in the decarbonized maritime transport segment,” said Oliver Barreau, Co-Founder and President of Grain de Sail. “To make wind-powered transport accessible, we need to change scale, and that’s what we’re about to do with a pure sailing container ship.”

Grain de Sail III will carry around 200 containers while achieving a decarbonization rate of over 90%, thanks to three masts equipped with 4,000 m² of sails. Its maximum air draft of 62.5 meters will allow it to pass under bridges along major maritime routes (Verrazzano Bridge, Panama Canal, etc.).

Its retractable daggerboards will ensure good upwind performance while limiting its draft at the dock. The goal is to design a near-passive vessel through strong insulation. Powerful hydrogenation technologies already developed for cargo sailing ships by Grain de Sail will ensure autonomous and decarbonized production of onboard energy.

As with Grain de Sail II, a wood pellet boiler will provide heating and hot water for the crew’s comfort.

Grain de Sail’s operational experience gained through its first two cargo sailing ships provides essential and unmatched feedback in the industry.

With Grain de Sail III, the company seeks to offer concrete solutions based on its assessment of the needs and limitations of wind propulsion. The Grain de Sail III, registered under the French International Register (RIF), will meet the needs for wind-powered maritime transport identified by the company over several years.

About GRAIN DE SAIL:

Since 2013, the company has been a coffee roaster and chocolatier, and since 2020, it has also operated a fleet of cargo sailing ships with very low carbon emissions (at least -90%). The ships, registered under the French International Register (RIF), export French products to New York and import organic cocoa and green coffee from Latin America, as well as raw materials for other shipper clients.

Through its food production units, maritime operations, and freight forwarding services, Grain de Sail Group aims to gradually expand its commercial presence in the USA and then Europe in the coffee and chocolate sectors, while simultaneously growing its fleet of vessels to strengthen low-carbon maritime logistics across the Atlantic between Europe and the U.S. www.graindesail.com www.graindesail-logistics.com

The J.M. Smucker announces agreement to divest Voortman brand as part of continued portfolio optimization

ORRVILLE, Ohio, USA – The J.M. Smucker Co. (NYSE: SJM) announced today it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its Voortman® cookie brand to Second Nature Brands, a U.S.-based creator of premium snacks and treats controlled by CapVest Partners LLP. The all-cash transaction is valued at approximately $305 million, subject to a working capital adjustment. The decision reflects the Company’s continued commitment to optimize its portfolio and reallocate resources to its core growth brands.

The transaction includes all Voortman® trademarks and the Company’s leased manufacturing facility in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. In addition, approximately 300 employees will transition with the business.

“This decision reflects our continued commitment to portfolio and resource optimization to focus on our largest growth opportunities as a Company,” said Mark Smucker, Chair of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer. “The divestiture of the Voortman® brand is an important step in our integration plans that will enable the execution of our Sweet Baked Snacks strategy through dedicated focus and ongoing investments in the Hostess® brand, advancing our leadership in the sweet baked goods category. I want to recognize and thank the many talented teams who have supported this brand.”

The Company also confirmed continued progress on the integration of Hostess Brands, including the successful completion of systems integration earlier this month, and that it remains on track to achieve expected synergies of $100 million from the acquisition by the end of fiscal year 2026.

The Voortman® brand generated net sales of approximately $65 million for the Company’s fiscal year ended April 30, 2024, which represents a partial year of net sales reported in its Sweet Baked Snacks segment results following its acquisition on November 7, 2023. For fiscal year 2025, the Company anticipates full-year net sales from the Voortman® brand to be approximately $150 million.

The Company expects the divestiture to be dilutive to its adjusted earnings per share by approximately $0.25 on a full-year basis, reflecting the foregone profit related to the Voortman® brand and before factoring in any benefits from the use of transaction proceeds. The Company anticipates using the net proceeds from the transaction to pay down debt, which will contribute an earnings per share benefit of approximately $0.10 on a full-year basis. The Company will further discuss the transaction’s impact on its fiscal year 2025 outlook when it releases its second quarter results.

The transaction is anticipated to close in the third quarter of the Company’s current fiscal year ending April 30, 2025, subject to customary closing conditions including the receipt of required regulatory approvals. Goldman Sachs & Co., LLC is serving as the Company’s financial advisor, and Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP is serving as the Company’s legal advisor in connection with the transaction.
