ANGOLA – Agriculture minister emphasizes efforts towards coffee production
LUANDA (Angola) – Agriculture minister Afonso Pedro Canga last Monday in Belo Horizonte, Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, emphasised the efforts of the Angolan Executive towards re-launching coffee production, aimed at increasing the income of the country and peasant families.
Afonso Pedro Canga, who was speaking at the 111th Session of the International Council of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), reminded the audience that this product was one of the main boosters of Angolan development in the 1960’s and 1970’s, reason why the Angolan Executive has been adopting policies leading to the increase of production.
This session of the ICO, which is marking its 50th anniversary, has caused the organizers to send special invitations to several personalities.
In view of this, the Angolan delegation, headed by Agriculture minister Afonso Pedro Canga, also includes the Angolan ambassador to Brazil, Nelson Manuel Cosme, in representation of the Foreign Affairs minister, Georges Chikoti. Meanwhile, on the fringes of the ICO session, the Angolan Agriculture minister met last Monday with his Brazilian counterpart, António Andrade.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed matters related to institutional and entrepreneurial co-operation, science and technique.
Brazil is the world’s major coffee producer with an annual production of over 800.000 tonnes, followed by Vietnam and Colombia.
