If you desire the freshest cup of coffee at your residence, then Panasonic Corp. is targeting you. It’s launching a machine that enables you to roast your coffee beans at home. But that’s not all.

Panasonic will also deliver coffee beans selected by experts to your home and give you advice on how to roast the beans via a smartphone app.

It is the first time for Panasonic, one of Japan’s leading makers of electronic devices, to provide a foodstuff.

Customers can order the beans via the Panasonic Store, the mail order website run by the company. A few different kinds of coffee beans will then be delivered to the customer’s home every month.

A Quick Response (QR) code is printed on each package. If a customer reads the QR code with an exclusive application installed on a smartphone, various ways of roasting suggested by a professional will be displayed.

The user then wirelessly sends the “recipe” to the roast machine and puts the appropriate beans into the machine. About 13 minutes are required for the beans to be roasted.

Usually, the fragrance of coffee beans slowly disappears after they have been roasted.

Some coffee lovers grind roasted beans with a mill at home. Considering that, Panasonic believes that there is a demand for a home-roasting machine and the extra services.

The machine will be priced at 108,000 yen ($957), including tax. A pack of three kinds of coffee beans, each packet containing 200 grams, will cost 5,940 yen.

Customers can reserve the product via the mail order website run by the company.

Users need to prepare other utensils for making coffee separately such as a mill or dripping machine.
