In 700 pages, written in Italian and English to make the volume accessible for readers in dozens of countries around the world - just like the four previous ones - there is the representation of coffee world actors, from those who cultivate our pleasure through their own effort to the most important sectorial world fairs"

MILANO – CoffeExperts, the latest popular editorial endeavour undertaken by the Bazzara family, marks an important virtual passage of the baton in the firm.

Until last year the successful books on the world of coffee published by the Bazzara brothers – translated into several languages, read all over the world and reprinted several times – had always been signed by Franco and Mauro Bazzara, sons of the company’s founder Dionisio Bazzara.

This time though the brothers Andrea and Marco, respectively Sales manager and Quality manager at Bazzara Espresso, took over the last book. They represent the third generation of Bazzara working at the historic family-run roasting firm based in Trieste.

The third generation of Bazzara

Let’s hear the comments about their work – which has been welcomed with enthusiasm by many leaders of the coffee world – made by their “predecessors” to whom we asked what they think about CoffeExperts.

“The book – says Franco Bazzara, President of Bazzara Espresso – contains relevant testimonies coming from the most disparate sectors of the supply chain: from the most important producer country for washed coffees, Colombia, to those who train baristas every day; from roasting engineers to the Italian Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies; from those who spread the Italian know-how through coffee machines, to those who contain it by creating cups”.

Franco Bazzara continues:”I believe an excellent “fresco” has been painted. In 700 pages, written in Italian and English to make the volume accessible for readers in dozens of countries around the world – just like the four previous ones – there is the representation of coffee world actors, from those who cultivate our pleasure through their own effort to the most important sectorial world fairs”.

The book is the result of months of research

“The high-impact photos and graphics – shares Mauro Bazzara, CEO of the company – are the result of months and months of research and patient ‘sewing’ work carried out by Andrea and Marco. Nothing has been left to chance, and those who appreciate attention to details will have noticed that. The final goal is always the same, the one we have been working towards for three generations at Bazzara Espresso: creating a network of professionals who develop their skills and thereby lead the entire sector to grow through exchange.

Knowledge in the world of coffee is fundamental: passion alone is not enough. It is necessary to update, confront and innovate. Sometimes a single key piece of information can be a turning point, and help to start over on the right premise and make a qualitative leap forward. CoffeExperts, a book full of suggestions, notions, experiences, is also meant to be an opportunity for improvement”.

“One of the merits of Andrea and Marco is being able to enhance the essential heritage represented by the know-how shared by the great personalities – continues Franco Bazzara – who gathered together in the biennial encounters provided by our event Trieste Coffee Experts. This know-how, collected in CoffeExperts, reminds us of the ‘power of coffee’: a unique energy which gifts us every day and everywhere with growing emotions, pleasure and fulfilment as just few other products of nature can do.

Franco Bazzara adds: “By devouring the pages one perceives passion but also a conscious vision of the future of coffee; knowledge often combined with Italian genius; courage to always innovate and an important message for young people, namely that coffee can help them to achieve their goals. Perhaps never in the last decades as in this difficult moment, has there been such a need for the concreteness which is present in the texts written by dozens and dozens of great storytellers belonging to this unique and fascinating world, the world of coffee”.

Mauro Bazzara: “The Bazzaras are ‘privileged prisoners’ of coffee”

“The Bazzaras – adds Mauro – are ‘privileged prisoners’ of coffee: we write about it, we explain it in our Academy, we produce it, we share its expressive power with the rest of the world in many ways. One of the most stimulating and enriching aspects of our work is represented by the friendships – consolidated over years of shared passion for the world of quality coffee – with great characters that the whole world envies us. And I think of the lucid ‘madness’ of Enrico Maltoni who travelled everywhere to find ‘the great beauty’ represented by moka pots, grinders and ancient coffee machines, now sublimated in the Mumac Museum, strongly wanted by Cimbali: an ‘Uffizi Gallery’ of coffee-making.”

Mauro continues: “Just like Luigi Morello, Luigi and Carlo Odello, Maurizio Giuli, Carlo Barbi, Gianfranco Carubelli, Sergio Barbarisi, just to name a few, who through their writings confirm that the journey has by no means come to an end, but on the contrary it will still become more and more interesting. And then there is the ‘new generation’: young people like Andrea Antonelli, Simone Pecora, Andrea Lattuada, who well represent the connection of our sector to the future”.

“I believe that the greatest reward for all the energy invested in the project – concludes Franco Bazzara – is the great amount of rewarding feedback received on the work done, among which the  review by prof. Luigi Odello, who writes: “To make a great book you need a lot of substance: research, knowledge (…). This is the case of the Bazzara family who created a temple to coffee in Trieste”. Odello also praises the highly elegant graphic project’ and argues that CoffeExperts ‘will certainly be a testimony of our time’. Receiving such compliments from one of the great coffee masters of our time marks real success for us”.

The President of Bazzara Espresso concludes: “I want to underline the symbolic value that the book’s dedication written to baristas, Ho.Re.Ca operators and all those who have lived through this dark time has for us: ‘may coffee return to give us the pleasure of tasting and the warmth of sociability.’ So we hope this will happen, this moment shall pass too. In the meantime, the important thing is to try to live as well as possible and learn, learn and learn some more; CoffeExperts is also born from and for this purpose”.
