PARIS, France – Peru’s Sierra y Selva Exporter program recently announced that Peruvian coffee won big at the 3rd International Roasted Coffee Contest in Paris, according to Andina.
The Contest was organised by the Agency for the Valorization of Agricultural Products, or AVPA.
23 medals were awarded to roasted coffee brands from the Peruvian Andes and jungle regions, winning Gourmet, Gold, and Silver medals while competing among coffee giants like Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Honduras. Peruvian coffees were more highly awarded than both Mexican and Colombian coffees at the event.
The Villa Rica brands won 12 of Peru’s 23 medals, making them the most successful of the Peruvian coffees on display at the event.
Are we seeing a rise in Peruvian coffee in the world market? The first half of 2017 leads us to believe so; from the resilience shown to years of hardship to winning the world’s best coffee award.
Mayors of Peruvian coffee growing areas were also recently invited to the United States to take part in Washington D.C.‘s Peruvian Gastronomy Day.
