In continuous effort to strengthening alternative development projects, the Government through the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida), transferred to nine municipalities in Puno 1.7 million dollar, to increase the production of cacao, coffee and fruit in the region.

The announcement was made by the chief DEVIDA in Puno, Ana Maria Vanini Laura, during a seminar presented by the authorities who organize and execute some of the development projects for the local communities.

She said that during the first half of this year DEVIDA transferred to nine local governments more than eleven million soles, in addition to providing the necessary technical assistance.

With this new investment, local governments hope to organize initiatives that will increase the areas used for these crops, gradually gaining more acceptance among the farmer, who should see the benefits of this legal form of economy.

In addition, organizers will pay close attention to the environmental and financial impact their initiatives are having in the communities around the jungles of Puno.

DEVIDA will continue to work with the necessary organizations and mayors to develop viable projects for the benefit of coffee farmers and cocoa valleys of Tambopata, Inambari, San Gaban and Esquilaya.
