MILAN – British coffee and sandwich chain Pret a Manger said on Monday it will permanently close 30 UK branches and could cut at least 1,000 jobs after suffering “significant operating losses” as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown.
“Following the outbreak of COVID-19, Pret has faced significant operating losses,” the company said. ” Pret is also experiencing a much slower recovery in the UK, in comparison to the other countries it trades in.”
Pret has reopened 339 out of its 410 UK shops, but footfall remains down, while sales were 74% lower than the same time last year as people continue to work from home.
