EMMERICH, Germany – For maximum elimination of visible and odor components from the exhaust air of its specialty roasters, Probat is cooperating with ReiCat − a specialist company that offers electrically heated catalytic converters for even greater cleaning efficiency without the use of fossil fuels. With this strategic step, Probat not only streamlines its product portfolio in this area but also makes a further contribution to the sustainable development of the global coffee industry.

Probat launches ReiCatino

For the elimination of smoke and odors from the air stream, Probat now offers a system called ReiCatino, an electrically driven catalyst that meets different purification requirements and is characterized by high overall cleaning efficiency and ease of maintenance.

The ReiCatino now replaces the two systems that previously performed this task: the afterburner and the thermal pre-cleaner with catalytic afterburning. In addition, the use of electricity instead of natural gas for flameless oxidation results in lower NOx and greenhouse gas emissions, making the ReiCatino the first choice for environmentally conscious roasters.

“With the addition of the ReiCatino to our range of air purification systems for the specialty coffee sector, we can now offer a single solution for the most diverse requirements in terms of cleaning performance and capacity. And the fact that it runs on electricity contributes to our climate strategy of making the coffee industry more sustainable by offering our customers green technologies,” explains Jens Roelofs, Head of Sales & Service Specialty Roasters at the company.

The ReiCatino uses an electric hot air blower to heat the roasting exhaust air to the required conversion temperature of the catalyzer. The air is then passed through the catalytic converter. The increase in temperature and the catalytic reaction lead to the neutralization of smoke and odors.

The ReiCatino can be easily integrated into any of Probat’s specialty roasting systems, requiring only separate exhaust pipes and an external cyclone for the roasting exhaust air. Retrofitting to existing machines is also possible.
