MILAN – The self-serve coffee machines across Romania will be targeted by a broad control action carried by the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), which will authorize (or not) the operation of each such unit, Marius Pîrvu, the president of the National Consumer Protection Authority (ANPC), announced on March 14 at a press conference, local Agerpres reported.
ANSVSA will have to go to every place where a coffee machine is installed and check if it meets the legal requirements.
The ANPC president suggested that many such devices serve poor quality products.
“Macchiato is not macchiato,” he said, adding that some machines don’t even use ground coffee.
“We have already informed ANSVSA and the tax collection agency,” Pîrvu said, implying that the fiscal aspects of the business might be envisaged as well.
