American professional baseball franchise San Francisco Giants, in partnership with Peet’s Coffee and Tea, opened the @Café (pronounced At Café) – the first-of-its-kind social media headquarters at AT&T Park.
Located behind the centerfield bleachers, this walk-in café will serve as a gathering spot for fans who want to follow the worldwide social media chatter about the team, players and all things Giants and Major League Baseball.
According to Giants President and CEO Larry Baer, “It is our goal with the @Café to create a destination which allows us to bring the social media conversation inside the park where our fans can share captivating conversation about Giants baseball and AT&T Park.”
AT&T Park is one of the most socially engaged venues in the world. Fans will now be able to view the social conversation in real-time as well as their own tweets and Instagram photos inside the @Café.
Inside the @Café, fans will find a state of the art 12 foot by 4 foot video wall displaying Giants social chatter throughout the world, including trending Tweets, popular Instagram photos and results from Facebook polls and check-ins.
Adjacent to the video wall are two 50-inch LCD Screens which will carry both batting practice and the game live.
Fans will also be able to view the Giants Social Media Team in action as they monitor and post content to the media wall from the Giants Social Media Command Center. The @Café will feature a full service coffee and espresso bar featuring Peet’s Coffee and Tea.
“We’re proud to partner with the San Francisco Giants on the new, groundbreaking @Café. Fans can come together at AT&T Park and enjoy the love of baseball on a whole new level while sipping their favorite Peet’s iced latte during a day game or a delicious warm cappuccino for those cooler evening games,” said Dave Burwick, CEO of Peet’s Coffee and Tea.
The Giants have been leaders in the social media world. They currently lead all of baseball in Instagram (over 255,000) and Google Plus (over 1 million) followers; are ranked fourth with 434,000 Twitter followers and fourth with 1.69 million Facebook fans.
Of the top 10 trends in sports for 2012, #SFGiants ranked fifth, ahead of #Jeremy Lin, Super Bowl, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant and the New York Yankees. In 2012, AT&T Park was the third most “checked-in” Facebook venue in the world, behind Times Square and Disneyland.
The official Twitter handle for the @Café is @Cafe_SF and the hashtag is #SFGsocial. To connect will the Giants on social media, fans should go to sfgiants.com/connect.
