SCA launches the next edition of the Equitable Value Distribution survey

SCA Sustainability Director, Andrés Montenegro: “The EVD survey aims to be a touchstone on our collective perception of value in the specialty coffee sector. Our perceptions hugely impact what we pay attention to, what we value, and how we make individual decisions that shape how businesses, organizations, and how our industry operates. As we have framed in our Sustainable Coffee Agenda, without a shift in mindset, nothing really changes. Through this EVD survey process, the SCA wants to nurture dialogue that drives positive change to make coffee better, for all”

MILAN — Following the success of the previous survey and report, the SCA has launched the next edition of the Equitable Value Distribution survey. The 2025 EVD Survey seeks to build upon the valuable insights and ongoing global dialogues cultivated in past years. This survey invites individuals and organizations spanning the coffee value system to share their perspectives on how value is created, measured, and distributed in the industry. This initiative contributes to the broader goal of fostering equitable value distribution in the specialty coffee sector.

Feedback from the coffee community is essential to the SCA’s efforts to support activity to make specialty coffee a thriving, equitable, and sustainable activity for the entire value chain.

The results of the survey will be shared in a final report incorporating the new feedback with other emerging insights. This will come as a part of other activities from the SCA across the remainder of 2025 where the new survey’s findings will be expanded on through new dialogues.

The initial survey launched in April 2023 as part of efforts emerging from the Price Crisis Response Initiative (a 2019 report from SCA). The 2023 survey helped to establish a baseline to track the impact of future efforts by the SCA and its partners in promoting EVD. The results of the survey were published in a comprehensive report in February of 2024.

“The EVD survey aims to be a touchstone on our collective perception of value in the specialty coffee sector. Our perceptions hugely impact what we pay attention to, what we value, and how we make individual decisions that shape how businesses, organizations, and how our industry operates,” says SCA Sustainability Director, Andrés Montenegro, “As we have framed in our Sustainable Coffee Agenda, without a shift in mindset, nothing really changes. Through this EVD survey process, the SCA wants to nurture dialogue that drives positive change to make coffee better, for all.”

This survey, along with other activities related to the EVD initiatives at the SCA, are made possible by the support Barista Attitude and BWT water+more, whose collaboration enables a shared commitment to continue the creation and discovery of equitable value distribution throughout the coffee supply chain.

The 2025 survey can be found here and will be open for responses until July. The survey is currently available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese with translations to Chinese and Korean in progress.
