OCEAN COUNTY, N.J., U.S. ā Paying homage to the diner culture of the American Northeast and the universal liquid medium of family and friendship, actor/entrepreneur Scott Patterson, best-known as diner owner Luke Danes on the hit television series “Gilmore Girls,” has launched Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee.
The line of ground coffee is available for purchase exclusively through the website, www.scottyp.com, with distribution deals currently being finalized with other online merchants as well as select retail and storefront locations.
With the mission to offer “premium-quality coffee at half the price,” Scotty P’s uses carefully selected, 100% Arabica beans sourced from Latin and South America, with Patterson personally overseeing the development of hand-crafted blends which each undergo a proprietary roasting and grinding process.
The end result is a flavor profile that’s smooth and drinkable, not fruity yet with a degree of complexity that makes each blend dinner-table delicious and diner-worthy.
With 12-oz. bags modestly priced at $9.99, Scotty P’s blends at launch include:
- Breakfast Blend (Latin America): Light-medium roast, smooth, complex yet balanced
- French Roast (Central/South America): Dark roast, bold and smoky
- Hazelnut Blend (Latin America): Medium roast, sweet and subtle
- French Vanilla Blend (Latin America): Medium roast, sweet and subtle
- Columbian Decaf (Columbian Supremo/Excelso blend): Rich flavor with a clean finish
True to its name, Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee also offers big (10-oz.) diner-style mugs, one with the handle-shaped Scotty P’s logo, another with the image of the Greek goddess Artemis, inspired by Patterson’s mother, Hope Gordon Patterson.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Southern New Jersey, Scott Patterson remembers local diners as playing a big part in his youth. His love of coffee began at home in a tiny yet comfy kitchen in South Jersey, sitting with his mom and drinking piping-hot cups of coffee.
In the wake of other successful entrepreneurial efforts, a genuine passion for coffee, and plenty of java itself, fueled the development of Scotty P’s, with the goal to create blends that captured both the emotional resonance of his own youth as well as a shared connection with Americana diner culture.
“I associate so many warm memories with coffee,” says Patterson. “When you offer coffee to someone, you’re really asking permission to deepen the bond between you. For me, coffee will always be first about family, and especially my mom, a fearless soul who always believed in me and regularly sent me off with the advice, ‘Give ’em hell!'”
Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee is headquartered in Manahawkin, New Jersey, with additional offices and fulfillment facilities in Los Angeles.
