The project, Short Food Movie of Expo Milano 2015 rolls on, with new videos being uploaded to the platform constantly. This week’s topic is “Cibo & Sostenibilità” (Food & Sustainability).

Having nourished us for millennia, Planet Earth also needs some form of sustenance, in the form of respect, sustainable attitudes and the application of advanced technologies.

It would also benefit from new political views, that should include striking a balance between resources and consumption. Every recipe has its environmental footprint.

This results not only from how a particular dish is prepared, but also from the origins and seasonality of the ingredients used.

As the video below reveals, the writer Susanna Tamaro, who has campaigned for years against food waste, notes: “As the population increases, so food inequalities increase. The Earth is not a doormat that we can trample with impunity, but something to be cultivated with great love.”

Attention to food sustainability begins with the involvement of the public. Communicating the sustainability of food is a major mission, which anyone can take part in.

One option is Short Food Movie and Expo Milano 2015. The site features five videos from this week’s category, where we visit the United States, Ukraine, Cuba and Portugal, each video exploring a different concept of sustainability.
