GAITHERSBURG, Md., U.S. – Sodexo, the world leader in Quality of Life services, is a global company operating in 80 countries around the world, but with a keen focus and commitment to local communities.
In serving its more than 9,000 client sites across North America the integrated facilities management and food service operations organization leverages the scope and scale of its supply chain to create economic opportunities for small and rural communities, sourcing more than $36.6 million annually in produce that is grown in the same state or region where it is served.
The details of Sodexo’s impact are illustrated in an infographic released yesterday by Sodexo.
Titled On the Farm, the infographic outlines ways the company delivers locally-grown and raised products, fairly traded coffee and tea, and sustainable seafood to its cafes, dining halls and kitchens throughout North America.
“Because we’re a global company with operations in more than 32,000 locations worldwide, our purchasing decisions can have a major impact,” says Jim Pazzanese, vice president, supply management, Sodexo.
“In North America alone, we support more than 1,400 local dairy farms that produce 37 million gallons of rbst-free milk for clients and consumers. That equals the same amount consumed by nearly 1.12 million customers per day.”
Further influencing the sustainable practices of its suppliers, Sodexo has committed to sourcing and providing 100% cage-free shell and liquid eggs by the year 2020. Humane treatment of animals in the supply chain is another area in which the company has demonstrated progress and industry leadership.
Sodexo’s sustainable supply chain focuses on four key practice areas; Local sourcing, Fairly traded products, sustainable seafood and animal welfare. Local, seasonal sourcing allows Sodexo to create economic opportunities for small businesses and rural communities, while offering more flavorful and healthful food options for customers every day.
Its commitment to fairly traded coffee and tea benefits both the environment and the economies of local communities.
Supporting sustainable seafood and aquaculture helps ensure the viability of a variety of ocean life. Finally, Sodexo’s progressive commitment to better animal welfare practices drives an overall industry change, which includes sourcing from farmers who produce cage-free eggs.
Sodexo delivers more than 100 services across North America that enhance organizational performance, contribute to local communities and improve quality of life.
