MILAN – KT&G, the leading tobacco company in South Korea, signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Jakarta City and an international NGO on Aug. 27 to sponsor the Coffee Lab, a barista school in Indonesia.

According to the MOU, KT&G will sponsor the Coffee Lab’s barista training programs, develop related training programs, hold workshops with those working in the local coffee industry, and help young Indonesians become professional baristas.

Indonesia is the fourth-largest coffee producer in the world, but its coffee industry infrastructure is still underdeveloped. The Indonesian government has launched a coffee industry growth project in 2018 in this regard. KT&G’s sponsorship is expected to contribute to the growth of and job creation in the industry.
