FRAMINGHAM, Mass., U.S. — Staples has become the first and only national retailer to accept both single serve and traditional coffee brewers for free recycling in stores as a part of its larger electronics recycling program.
The expansion of the Staples free electronics recycling program is available to all customers in the US.
Since starting the program in 2007, Staples has collected more than 400 million pounds of electronic waste, including ink and toner, which is the weight of roughly 13 Brooklyn Bridges.
“We know coffee is an important part of the morning routine for many customers. We hope customers make recycling their coffee makers and other electronics at Staples a habit, just like their coffee fix,” said Jake Swenson, director, sustainability, Staples.
More sustainable products
“The expansion of our electronics recycling program is another way we’re making it easier for customers to support the environment, along with our large assortment of more sustainable products and free ink and toner recycling.”
During the week of 4/22, Staples Rewards members or customers who join can recycle eligible products at a nearby Staples and get a coupon for $10 off an in-store purchase of $30 or more.
The week of 4/22 provides a unique opportunity for customers to recycle an old coffee brewer and apply the coupon towards coffee or a new brewer.
