Starbucks is launching its strongest ever latte in the UK only — fuelling fears about Britain’s coffee addiction, reports The Sun. The US giant is changing the recipe of its most popular drink after a 60 percent surge in people wanting extra caffeine shots. The chain’s new XL or Venti “British latte” will have THREE 75mg shots, or 225mg, reports the daily.
Pregnant women are told to stay below 200mg a day.
Health experts warn Brits may be becoming too tolerant of normal servings and need a bigger buzz.
Starbucks managing director Kris Engskov said the launch reflected Brits’ “taste” for real coffee.
UK customers now buy 200,000 extra shots of caffeine a week.
Cath Collins, principal dietician at London’s St George’s NHS Trust, said: “Regular coffee drinkers have to go up in size to get the same hit. It’s a bit like alcohol.”
