Tata Coffee won two awards at the recently concluded 12th Golden Leaf India Awards-2016 for the high quality teas produced at their Pachaimallai tea factory located in the beautiful Anamallai hills.

The awards were conferred to Orthodox whole leaf & Orthodox Fannings, both grades of tea manufactured in Tata Coffee’s orthodox factory. During the stringent screening commissioned by the distinguished jury, the teas were evaluated on overall quality covering attributes like leaf appearance, liquor and overall taste profile.

Commenting on the win, Mr.Sanjiv Sarin, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Coffee said “These awards show our commitment of providing our consumers with high quality products.

The clear, pure air and succulent leaf harvested from the sustainably maintained tea gardens of Tata Coffee amidst the beautiful Annamalai hills produce a tea with a very unique flavour and taste profile.

The Estate and Factory are certified nationally and internationally by the Trustea, Rain Forest Alliance and Ethical Tea Partnership, which reaffirms the commitment of Tata Coffee to produce teas in a sustainable and responsible manner, protecting and nurturing the environment and community they work. ”

The final screening of teas in the 12th edition of the competition was conducted in Dubai between 5th and 7th April 2016, and coincided with the 6th Global Dubai Tea Forum. This forum serves as an excellent platform to showcase the quality of South Indian teas, as it is attended by a diverse and respected fraternity of tea producers, traders, buyers and consumers.

The Golden Leaf India Award: Southern Tea Competition (TGLIA: STC) is a joint initiative of Tea Board and the United Planters’ Association of Southern India (UPASI), Coonoor. The motive behind this competition is to improve the quality of South Indian teas and to place them on the world map.

The teas entered in this competition go through two levels of screening, and are tasted by a distinguished and renowned International Jury, and the teas are also subjected to stringent testing for pesticide residue, to ensure they conform fully to International norms.
