PARIS, France – The 2022 edition of the AVPA – Paris “Teas of the World” International Contest was, once again, a great success. More than 300 teas, 33% more than in 2021, from 25 countries were registered in the fifth edition of this contest.
All continents were present; traditional countries as well as the newest producers sent samples: South Africa, Burma, Brazil, China, Cambodia, Colombia, South Korea, France, Georgie, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malawi, Nepal, Uganda, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
Teas and herbal teas are evaluated according to the philosophy of the AVPA contest. First, the samples are classified into homogeneous organoleptic families. Secondly, products of excellence receive a Gourmet medal within their category. Lastly, the best of them get to be on the podium to receive a Gourmet Gold medal, a Gourmet Silver medal or a Gourmet Bronze medal.
AVPA – Paris “Teas of the World” International Contest is organized into two clearly identified sections: “Monovarietal Teas” and “Herbal teas, blends and scented teas.”
To evaluate the products, the AVPA contest is judged by two juries which are chaired by Carine Baudry: The professional jury is composed of tea and herbal tea specialists who confirms the organoleptic classification, note all the samples and select the productions that deserve a Gourmet medal, the gastronomic jury, composed of tea specialists, herbal tea specialists but also taste professionals, taste and rate all the Gourmet products.
The scores of the two juries are mathematically processed to obtain smooth and consistent results and to therefore allow us to grant the final awards.
This year, the juries awarded 95 Gourmet Diplomas and 95 medals, which are divided between: 25 Gourmet Or (gold), 36 Gourmet Argent (silver), 34 Gourmet Bronze.
The awards ceremony took place on Thursday, October 13th on the AVPA web site: Awards Ceremony with the participation of many producers, buyers and importers, who are all passionate about these incomparably aromatically rich products.
