PARIS, France – Despite the difficulties associated with the pandemic 210 teas, 40% more than in 2019, registered in this third edition of the « Teas of the World » International Contest AVPA – Paris 2020. This year’s contest was organized into two well-identified sections: “Teas” and “Herbal teas, blends and scented teas”. The two professional juries composed of specialized buyers or tea specialists were chaired by Lydia Gautier and Carine Baudry respectively.
In a second phase, a second jury of experienced passionate tasted their selection to give the awards which are thus the result of a technical grading and a passionate evaluation.
Samples came from all over the world with 21 participating countries. The jurors had the pleasure to taste samples from Burundi, China, Colombia, Egypt, France, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Malawi, Nepal, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam!
Teas are evaluated according to the philosophy of the AVPA contest where it is no longer just a matter of classifying comparable products but of awarding a Gourmet medal even if the number of represented products is limited.
This year’s juries awarded 22 Gourmet Or (gold), 27 Gourmet Argent (silver), 28 Gourmet Bronze medals and 56 Gourmet diplomas.
In addition, thanks to their ratings, a Taiwan producer was awarded the Brita Special Prize for his Gourmet Or natural black tea, while a producer from Greece won the Brita Special Award for her Gourmet Or verbena herbal tea.

The awards ceremony took place on Monday, November 16th on AVPA Youtube channel with the participation of many producers, buyers and importers, all passionate about these products with incomparable aromatic richness: teas and herbal teas.
