MISSISSAUGA, Ontario Canada – Canada-based The Second Cup Coffee Company Inc. will be celebrating with a global birthday party in all its international locations Sept. 15, 2015. Second Cup grew from its humble beginnings selling specialty coffee in a shopping center in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, in 1975 and, over the past 40 years, the company has expanded globally to over 30 regions, with soon into many more.

As one of the longest and most established specialty coffee retailers and cafes, with an existing fast growing international presence, success has been driven by enthusiastic regional partners and loyal guests. A global party at all locations will mark the 40th anniversary.

According to President and CEO Jim Ragas, “We are immensely proud to have reached this milestone. Not many brands can boast to be around for 40 years, and we certainly couldn’t have done it without our guests, franchise partners and baristas.

“We are proud to be known for our commitment to serve Rainforest Alliance(c) Arabica coffees and other drink creations. Guests are invited in to sample Second Cup’s variety of innovative and exclusive coffee blends, espresso-based beverages, fantastic premium tea selections, iced drinks, signature foods, all natural frozen yogurt and indulgent treats. We will be offering samples at all of our cafes all day long!”

Second Cup cafes are designed to be a second home with plenty of space with plenty of varied seating for relaxation or work. “Our cafes are designed to make everyone feel at home, whether they are students, business people, families, or individuals just wanting to relax and have a drink or hungry for great food,” added Ragas.

“This Tuesday we are taking the opportunity to celebrate with all our Second Home family members at each of our cafes. The enthusiasm that we have received over the years from each cafe’s local community has been tremendous, and I wish I could be at each cafe to thank everyone in person,” stated Ragas. “I also want to thank the founders Frank O’Dea and Tom Culligan for having the vision to start this now iconic global brand.”

“Second Cup believes that having strong local owners as operators and franchise partners is instrumental to delivering a superior guest experience and this has been proven in the 30 regions worldwide in which we have grown. We are fortunate to have franchise partners who share our passion for the coffee business and are fully aligned with the Second Cup vision. Our franchise partners are selected on the basis of their business acumen, passion for the coffee cafe business and customer service, local relationships and entrepreneurial spirit,” said Ragas.

The Second Cup coffee cafe concept originated in 1975 in Toronto, Canada. Second Cup’s international expansion started in 2003 and has opened cafes in Abu Dhabi, Angola, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Dubai, Egypt, Ghana, Iraq, Jordan, Kurdistan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lithuania, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Ras Al-Khaimah, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Sharjah, Taiwan, several regions in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
