SHINNECOCK INDIAN RESERVATION, NY, USA – The Shinnecock Indian Nation’s own organic and fair trade coffee company will be making their debut in Mom’s Organic Market in August of 2022. Thunder Island Coffee Roasters, located on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, eastern Long Island New York, has been an avid supporter for organic and fair trade coffees since their founding in 2004.
Their goal to develop cooperative efforts to support the Indigenous family owned organic coffee farms of Central and South America, has lead to the creation of a “Native to Native exchange”, forming a network of Native American commerce and employment for their local community and abroad..
Thunder Island Coffee Roasters import their green coffee beans (un-roasted) from these indigenous family owned organic coffee farms, all which produce Specialty Grade coffees, grown at elevations of 4,000 ft. and above.
These elevations also create the highly sought after SHB (Strictly Hard Bean ) coffees – slower growth development, creating a nutrient dense coffee packed with flavor.
Each of the Thunder Island Coffees take us on a trip back in the history of Long Island NY, with such coffee names as Rockaway Roast, Setauket Bleu, Montauk Blend, Canarsie Blend and Shinnecock Hills, in reference to names of some of the original Native American tribes located on Long Island.
Starting in August of 2022, Mom’s Organic Market with be offering the full line of Thunder Island Coffees in both the Dobbs Ferry, NY and Paramus NJ locations.
