METTLACH, Germany – On the 3rd of July 2021, an EU-wide ban on single-use plastics will come into force. This will make disposable takeaway cups and other environmentally damaging items a thing of the past. When it comes to finding an alternative, Villeroy & Boch has a clear solution: its To-Go porcelain mugs are infinitely reusable, attractive and contain no toxic substances. What’s more, your favourite drink will taste just as good and authentic as it does at home.
Bye-bye plastic, we won’t miss you
On the way to work, on a break or out for a walk in the park: grabbing a takeaway coffee has long been part of our everyday lives. Every hour, around 320,000 single-use cups are used for hot drinks in Germany, according to the Federal Ministry for the Environment. 140,000 of these are takeaway cups.
The result: carelessly discarded cups litter the landscape, end up in the oceans and harm animals. So it’s clear: nobody will miss single-use plastic, least of all the environment. Unfortunately, many alternatives are not perfect.
Not all plastic-free versions are taste-neutral and free from harmful substances. Porcelain, on the other hand, offers numerous advantages as a travel mug: It is dishwasher-safe and can be recycled almost infinitely. Porcelain is also free from harmful substances and allows an absolutely authentic flavour. Villeroy & Boch uses only Premium Porcelain for its To Go mugs – from the mug to the lid.
New sizes and designs
The To Go range now includes new designs that complement the existing classic white mugs and the Indigo, Jade and Rose patterns inspired by the famous “Mettlach tiles”. They have been joined by a new mug with a soft green succulent motif, two versions with cool gradients in green and pink as well as a mug with a trendy marble look – matching many like. by Villeroy & Boch collections. Another new feature: size S is a practical alternative for anyone who wants to travel light – and its 290 ml capacity is still large enough for favourite drinks.
Porcelain mugs, glass straws
What’s more, the ban on single-use plastics also affects another environmental enemy, plastic straws. Once again, Villeroy & Boch has come up with an alternative: its glass straws can be washed and reused. They are also cool highlights in any drink.
