Tracey Antoniazzi, from Antoniazzi’s cafe, Bangor, said: “Coffee shops have become a social meeting point, a way to meet up with friends – rather than drinking alcohol. It is relatively cheap way to spend time out.”
Talking about the challenge of the large chains, she added: “I don’t think that we can compete in many ways – the large chains like Costa, Nero, have thousands of pounds for refit and refurb of premises, staff, uniforms, branding, advertising, etc. However, we strive to produce quality coffee and other related items, and provide a personal service.
“Invariably our customers recognise the quality, and continue to support us.
“Smaller independent companies give interest and vibe to areas including cafes, restaurants and shops. Smaller areas like Beaumaris and Conwy are bustling because of this. Once the large companies dominate high streets, all our high streets will look the same with character gone forever.
“We are rising to the challenge.”
