On Saturday, April 21st, Urnex and Rancilio will test participants’ palates and demonstrate the importance of clean espresso equipment in a blind taste test called the Urnex Challenge at the Specialty Coffee Expo in Seattle.

Shots of espresso will be served from the beautiful, brand-new Rancilio Specialty espresso machine with 3-time World Barista Championship Finalist, Ben Put, using coffee from his world-renewed café, Monogram Coffee.

The espressos will be the same in every way, with one difference: one espresso will be prepared from a group head that was recently cleaned with Urnex Cafiza, and the other will be prepared from a dirty group head.

The Challenge for participants is to taste the difference between the two

The Urnex Challenge in an engaging way to demonstrate the importance of brewing espresso on clean equipment.

“There are a lot of factors that influence the quality of a cup of coffee,” said Isaac Cohen, Urnex VP of Marketing.

“Through the seed-to-cup journey, farmers and producers carefully pick and process the coffee cherries, importers and exporters ensure the preservation of the coffee during transit, and roasters roast the green coffee to perfection. Then in the café setting, when you combine the skills of a world-class barista, like Ben, with the state-of-the-art technology of the Rancilio Specialty, you can produce a delicious brewed coffee. But if the coffee is brewed using dirty equipment, then all the care, effort and dedication put forth throughout the chain is de-valued.”

Expo attendees can visit the Rancilio Booth #927 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 21 to take the Challenge.
