LA JOLLA, Calif. – Bird Rock Coffee Roasters opened on December 10, 2014, their roasting facility, to support the increase in business and distribution with the addition of their second retail location in the Little Italy district of San Diego.
The 3,000-square-foot warehouse, which will house additional roasting equipment, will also serve as a wholesale distribution center for businesses and customers. The new additional roaster will allow Bird Rock Coffee Roasters to double their roasting capacity from about 100,000 pounds of green coffee per year to 200,000.
To continue their tradition of operating as a sustainable business, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters’ new roasting facility will utilize a Loring roaster, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption by up to 80 percent compared to other roasters.
The Loring technology will allow Bird Rock Coffee Roasters to focus on developing and roasting unique coffee profiles more efficiently, while maintaining consistency with each individual batch.
“The addition of our new roasting facility will allow Bird Rock Coffee Roasters to serve more customers and retail businesses through our wholesale capability,” said Chuck Patton, owner of Bird Rock Coffee Roasters.
“Even with our business growing, we are still dedicated to operating as the neighborhood craft coffee roaster, focusing on roasting quality, small-batch coffees.”
The new roasting facility, located at 1270 Morena Boulevard, will also host weekly public cuppings, educational seminars, and barista training in early 2015. They will also open a retail coffee bar at this location of Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, and sell freshly roasted beans to the public within the first quarter of 2015.
