WASHINGTON, D.C. and DURHAM, NC, U.S. – NPR, US National Public Radio, and Counter Culture Coffee are excited to introduce the NPR Coffee Club, a new coffee subscription service that brings roasted-to-order whole bean coffee to your home and supports NPR’s mission. NPR has collaborated with Counter Culture Coffee, a specialty coffee roaster based in Durham, NC, who will ship high-quality and sustainably-sourced coffee to NPR listeners around the country.

Counter Culture has been a leader in the specialty coffee space since their early days. Each coffee that is available on nprcoffeeclub.org has an origin story, where readers can learn more about that specific coffee and partnership Counter Culture has across the value chain. The roaster was one of the first to publish an annual Transparency Report that goes in-depth on their commitment to sustainability and price transparency.

NPR Coffee Club subscriptions offer a rotating selection of Counter Culture Single Origin and signature blends as whole bean coffee. NPR subscribers will be offered product exclusives including a rotating Single Origin exclusive as part of the NPR two-bag subscription. In addition, NPR fans can purchase whole bean coffee outside of the subscription program including Single Origins, signature blends, limited releases, and Single-Serve products.

All subscriptions and individual purchases are roasted-to-order with a percentage of all coffee sales and subscriptions going to support NPR programming.

As part of the subscription program, NPR Coffee Club members receive a 5% discount on regular pricing when they sign up, plus free shipping. Members choose how much of Counter Culture’s coffee they’d like every 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks. All members receive a free NPR Coffee Club enamel pin as a welcome gift.

“We are thrilled to work with NPR on this exciting initiative. For 25 years, Counter Culture Coffee has been focused on providing exceptional coffee experiences. This partnership allows us to highlight our commitment to quality, sustainability, and education; values that closely align with NPR and their loyal listeners,” said Brett Smith, President and Founder of Counter Culture Coffee.

Counter Culture and NPR will be inviting Coffee Club members to join the conversation over on @nprcoffeeclub and look forward to sharing coffee experiences with people across the country during these times.

“NPR is proud to offer listeners a new way to support NPR’s mission while experiencing delicious coffees from around the world,” said Jane Scott, Director of Consumer Products at NPR. “NPR listeners are curious and love to know the story behind the story. They’ll be able to do this when they join the NPR Coffee Club, since it will educate and inform members about the history, culture, and creation of coffee.”

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Counter Culture Coffee. In addition to sustainably sourcing and roasting coffee, the company is committed to educating coffee professionals and consumers through professional curriculum, hands-on training and public tastings at thirteen Training Centers from coast to coast. NPR Coffee Club members will have special access to Training Center events and a variety of online educational content—including the popular Brewing Guides, complete with videos showing how to brew at home and the Coffee Taster’s Flavor Wheel, an interactive tool to discover the variety of flavors perceived in coffee.

NPR has a long-standing tradition of quality reporting and commentary that connects their listeners to the world at large. Supporting the NPR Coffee Club brings you incredible coffee and helps support NPR’s mission of creating a more informed public that is challenged and invigorated by a deeper understanding of ideas.
