LONG BEACH, CA – The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) announce that they will be collaborating on an improved Coffees of the Year (COTY) program with the Alliance for Coffee Excellence ( ACE ).
While the official COTY program will remain on hiatus for the 2014 SCAA Event in Seattle, WA, ACE will present an exhibition of compelling coffees representative of those that will be featured in the program moving forward. This will be featured in the U.S. Coffee Championship Arena, the hall where the future COTY competition will reside.
Built on a shared desire to discover, understand and promote extraordinary coffees from all over the world, this program looks to use ACE’ s Cup of Excellence (COE) as a discovery mechanism for coffees to be featured, and will celebrate those coffees that are especially worth notice.
“We are all delighted by the possibility of partnering with SCAA to bring about a new direction for COTY that will include presenting coffees that often come as a complete surprise to the palate,” says Susie Spindler, Executive Director for the Alliance for Coffee Excellence.
“While the focus of this program will still be on presenting extraordinary coffees, there is so much to learn about these coffees that we do not yet fully understand. Finding and sharing these discoveries will be really exciting.”
Christopher Schooley, SCAA’s coffee design and experience coordinator, comments on the collaboration, “We are excited by the potential of this partnership and what it promises to provide in recognition and representation for our members in the coffee producing community.”
