VIETNAM – Coffee exports down in February

HANOI – Coffee exports from Vietnam in February 2014 are pegged at 136,000 tons worth US$254 million, down 4.92 % in volume and 4.28 % in value compared to the previous month.

According to the monthly report of the Agriculture and Rural Development, cumulative exports of coffee first two months of 2014 is estimated at 279 thousand tons and 519 million, down 13.7 % in volume and 23.4 % in value compared to the same period in 2013.

Price of coffee exports in January reached an average $ 1,855 / ton , down 9.77 % compared with 2013. Germany and the United States continue to be the two meat largest coffee consumption in Vietnam in January 2014 with a market share of respectively 16.59 % and 12.68 % .

However, the monthly report of the General Statistics Office estimates coffee exports in February 2014 reached 160 thousand tons with a turnover worth 298 million U.S. dollars, up 11.86 % in volume and 12.31 %  in value compared with the previous month.

Vietnam coffee prices climbed about 2 percent to 38,500-38,600 dong ($1.83) per kg on Tuesday, the highest since August last year, extending a rally from late last week, traders said.
