VIETNAM – Farm exports worth nearly US$9.7 billion

HANOI – Farm exports from Vietnam jumped 13.8% in value from the previous year to US$9.69 billion in the first four months of 2014, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). The Ministry’s latest report showed that in April alone, export value from farm produce was estimated at US$2.63 billion.

Key agricultural export items reaped approximately US$4.74 billion, up 5.8%, including US$2.22 billion from aquatic products (up 31.2%), and US$2 billion from the forestry sector (up 20.4%).

Among high hard-currency earners were rice, coffee, rubber, tea, cashew nuts, and cassava.

The US, China and the Netherlands remained Vietnam’s largest importers of cashew nuts, making up 28.44%, 20.01% and 9.12% of its total export revenue.

Export revenue to Russia slightly down in Q1

Vietnam’s overall export revenue to Russia went down slightly by 0.48 percent year-on-year to hit 415.9 million U.S. dollars, said General Department of Vietnam Customs on Monday.

Vietnam’s major export products to Russia during three-month period included cell phones, accessories and coffee, said the department.

Cell phones topped the export revenue with 173.3 million U.S. dollars, accounting for 41.6 percent of Vietnam’s total export revenue to Russia during the first three months of 2014.

Coffee ranked the second with 35.1 million U.S. dollars, up 23. 63 percent year-on-year.
