AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – On 20 March 2020, we witnessed the launch of the world’s first Virtual Coffee Festival, an online gathering for the global coffee community. Invented by Alex Kitain, founder of The Coffeevine and Freshdrip and his partner Michał Brzozowski, Virtual Coffee Festival was a direct response to the cancellation of physical coffee festivals around the world due to the national lockdowns.
It saw five leading coffee professionals take the virtual stage to offer interesting talks, presentations and interactive workshops that encouraged real-time participation and sharing a unique moment with other coffee lovers all over the world.
It attracted a total of 2.000 viewers from across the world who joined the webinar and watched the livestream on Facebook and managed to raise €2.000 in donations for Doctors Without Borders.
Following this resounding success, the founders are excited to announce the second edition of Virtual Coffee Festival set to take place on 28 June 2020 between 13:00 and 18:00 hours CET and be broadcast live from Amsterdam using the Zoom platform.
Once again, the program will feature five inspirational speakers from across the coffee industry who will dial in from various international locations to offer insightful talks, in-depth presentations and interactive workshops on a range of different topics that were chosen based on suggestions provided by attendees of the first edition.
The program for the second edition of the Virtual Coffee Festival includes:
- Lennart Clerkx – Founder of This Side Up Coffee
- Marjorie Canjura – Head of BELCO in El Salvador
- Joanna Alm – Founder and Head Roaster at Drop Coffee
- Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood – Founder of Colonna Coffee
- Dan Fellows – Twice Coffee in Good Spirits Champion
Each speaker gets 20-25 minutes of airtime followed by a Q&A session of the same length with the audience. Participants will get a unique opportunity to come face to face with the speakers without the need to leave their homes and share their experience with other people all over the world in real-time on social media using #virtualcoffeefestival.
“We took the pandemic as an opportunity to create something fresh and new that is perfectly suited to the times we’re living in,” co-founder and host Alex Kitain explained. “While physical festivals have their undisputed purpose, we think there is room for a more dynamic and environmentally friendly option that breaks down borders and focuses on education and having fun together.”
