GERMANY – What if coffee could be grown right on your doorstep in Germany? Rainer Langguth and Melanie Schmidtmeier from Fürth asked themselves this question back in 2014, exactly 10 years ago. Why wander far when the good is so close – that was the impulse back then. Rainer is a true coffee pioneer and had already founded his own espresso roastery and the Fortezza brand 25 years ago, which he has continued to build with Melanie with great passion over the past few years.
Since 2014, the two have looked at and tested many coffee alternatives, exchanged ideas with German farmers, roasted hundreds of samples, tasted them, and already decided on a very special bean back then. It is grown in Germany, even in Franconia. With specially developed roasting profiles and blends combined with their proven Fortezza beans, Rainer and Mel can now quite well replicate the beloved coffee taste.
These novel, regional blends on the coffee market actually come 98% close to real coffee or espresso enjoyment. Ideal for all fully automatic coffee machines, portafilter machines, and for filtering. The two diligent visionaries have developed an entirely new coffee category on the market – Regio-Coffee.
What is the vision behind it and what is revolutionary about it?
Rainer and Mel’s vision is to:
- create authentic and delicious coffee & espresso enjoyment from mostly regional raw materials (more than 50%)
- reduce the caffeine content in the Germans’ favorite drink by 2/3
- keep the transport route of the raw materials as short as possible
- help ensure that no more rainforests are cut down
- sustainably, fairly, and directly support German farmers on-site
- make artisanal coffee specialties enjoyment affordable again (for about 20€/kg)

Therefore, on December 6th, 2024 (St. Nicholas Day), the official Day of Regio-Coffee will take place for the first time. This will henceforth be held annually in honor of this completely new category in the coffee market.
The Day of Regio-Coffee will be celebrated with due ceremony at Fortezza Espresso in Fürth, marking the start of a true coffee revolution that will shake up the German coffee market. German coffee farmers will be present for discussions and exchanges, and there will be live roasting. All coffee fans, the curious, connoisseurs, newspapers, publishers, radio stations, TV stations, editors, bloggers, influencers, and simply everyone who wants to be among the first to experience it are warmly invited. Who will be able to taste any difference in the blind tastings?
The Day of Regio-Coffee will take place on Friday, December 6th, 2024, from 11 AM to 4 PM at Fortezza Espresso GmbH in D-90763 Fürth.
And will be the launch and start of a completely new category in the coffee-market.
