If you’re a regular coffee drinker, chances are you crave that rush every morning that you get from your daily cup of joe. The rich, smooth drink can be a powerful energizer, however, you may have noticed that when you don’t drink your morning coffee, you’re left feeling tired and weak throughout the day. But have you wondered why?

Well unsurprisingly, the answer lies in what coffee is made from. Coffee contains caffeine which is essentially a drug that gives you energy. In fact, a study by Johns Hopkins University found that you can become dependent on coffee after just three consecutive days of drinking it.

So go without it and you begin to feel the effects of withdrawal, leading to fatigue, irritability, headaches and even more annoying issues. Even drinking just eight ounces of weak coffee every day can cause feelings of withdrawal after missing one cup.
Much like the effects of a drug, your body can become used to the regular caffeine intake, needing more and more to wake you up. However, when you skip a cup of coffee all together, the increased blood flow of your receptors goes to your head, causing a throbbing headache.

If you want to avoid these symptoms, it’s best reccomended that you continue on with your normal morning coffee habits. However, as people are bound to miss a cup every now and again, there is something you can do.

If drinking your usual coffee is totally out of the question one morning, you could take two Excedrin to combat the lack of caffeine your body’s receiving.

If you want to stop drinking coffee, it’s not recommended you quit cold turkey. Instead, ween yourself off of it over a four week period, reducing the number of coffees you drink each week.
