CHICAGO, U.S. — NAMA announces that William Berna, Route Supervisor and Customer Service Manager of Canteen of Coastal California, has been selected as the winner of a scholarship for Michigan State University’s Supervisory Management Certificate program.

Berna began his career in the industry in Coastal California’s warehouse in 2006, with a rise through the organization, including positions with increased responsibilities. According to Berna’s application, “I am not one that just settles, I strive for more.”

Funded by the NAMA Foundation, this award has been developed to recognize a leader committed to the industry and continued professional development. This 12-week course, with a value of $3400, is in partnership with Michigan State University’s Eli Broad School of Business.

“We are thrilled that William Berna has been awarded the NAMA Foundation Scholarship. He represents the qualities we seek to recognize, most importantly, an already-established track record of success,” said Terri Bruce, Director of the NAMA Foundation.

“We also thank our team of industry leaders including Jeff Smith, Jim Carbone and Mike Knowlton who served on the selection committee,” she added.

Founded in 1936, NAMA is the association representing the $26 billion US convenience services industry. With more than 1,000-member companies — including many of the world’s most recognized brands — NAMA provides advocacy, education and research for its membership.
