BOGOTA, Colombia – Colombian women play an active role in coffee growing. Not only do they grow 25% of Colombia’s coffee, but they are also increasingly producing more value added coffees, creating women’s associations that prompt the sector’s development, winning high-quality coffee competitions and directly exporting their coffee to different markets.
The IV Convention of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) “Coffee and Business: Overcoming Barriers” will be an ideal scenario to broadcast the contributions of Colombian women to the country’s coffee growing sector.
In recognition of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation’s (FNC) efforts regarding gender equality, the Convention will take place on October 15th and 16th in Colombia during ExpoEspeciales 2015.
The IWCA Convention is among the most powerful vehicles for providing visibility and strengthening the role of coffee growing women throughout the value chain.
Women producers, exporters, importers, baristas and roasters from countries including India, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, Australia, El Salvador, Guatemala and Colombia will participate in the convention.
Additionally, world-class personalities including Robério Oliveira –Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization (OIC)–, Ric Rhinehart –Executive Director of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA)–, and Sunalini Menon from Coffee Lab India, will participate as speakers.
They will discuss matters related to the global and regional coffee industry and issues including sustainability, gender equality and science.
