MILAN, Italy – Great expectations as the countdown begins for the 2014 edition of World of Coffee, being held this year at Rimini Fiera from June 10th to 12th.
Rimini’s huge June show will feature three core functions to meet the requirements of various targets: an expo section, one dedicated to advanced training, and yet another based on international competitions.
The expo part will highlight every aspect of coffee production. One huge event will host coffee producing nations, new technologies, the latest trends, the most current consumption models and products from all over the world, with demo areas in which the best of speciality coffee, confectionery, haut cuisine, gelato and bakery will be brought together for the first time in Rimini.
The training section on the other hand will be made up of meetings, seminars and updating opportunities addressing the sector’s key players.
In fact, education, training, skill building and certification are the core objectives of SCAE. The SCAE Coffee Diploma System features all the SCAE education courses together in a modular system where coffee enthusiasts can choose the courses according to their professional and personal requirements.
Every year, SCAE brings its prestigious Coffee Diploma System to World of Coffee, so, at the show, trade members can improve their skills and knowledge of the coffee world or even obtain certification for what they already know, via the Coffee Diploma System.
The third section, on the other hand, will be dedicated to world-level competitions.
In fact, during the three days of the Rimini event, contestants from all over the world will compete on the international stage for the titles of three coffee world championships, which include the most prestigious World Barista Championship, as well as the World Brewers Cup and the World Coffee Roasting Championship.
As well as these, there is also the Cezve/Ibrik Championship, the championship for making Turkish coffee (for info: www.worldcoffeeevents.org).
The particularity and exceptional nature of the next edition of the event is precisely the fact that World of Coffee and the World Barista Championship (the annual destination for baristas who are already national champions in over 50 nations) are being held simultaneously.
In each competition, following numerous preliminary local and regional heats, baristas prepare espressos, cappuccinos and original espresso signature drinks that must meet exacting standards for a panel of international judges.
On the other hand, the World Brewers Cup spotlights the art of filter coffee brewing by hand, promoting manual brewing techniques and service excellence.
With a compulsory service and an open service round, contestants will prepare three beverages using whole bean coffee, part of which will be supplied by the organizers and part chosen by themselves, in a presentation format focussed on the extraction and flavour profiles of each one.
World Coffee Roasting Championship is a competition debuted last year by World Coffee Events on the occasion of World of Coffee Nice 2013, in France.
The contestants at the event, which is divided into three stages, will be evaluated on their ability to judge the quality of green coffee (coffee grading), their ability to develop a roasting profile that best accentuates the desirable characteristics of each individual coffee and the ultimate cup quality of the roasted coffees.
Lastly, a very busy program of after-expo events will round out the evenings during World of Coffee 2014 outside the expo centre’s halls, with initiatives, events, shows and contests animating the Rimini area and contributing to confirming Rimini as the world’s new coffee capital.
