MILAN, Italy – An advance press presentation was held in Milan yesterday for the 2014 edition of World of Coffee, the premier event in Europe for quality coffee, being held this year in Italy, in Rimini from June 10th to 12th. The previous editions were held in France, Austria and the United Kingdom.
Organized by SCAE (Speciality Coffee Association of Europe) and Rimini Fiera, the appointment, which targets the entire coffee chain from production to consumption, and covers all the professional sectors, from training to entertainment, has the patronage of Emilia Romagna Region, Rimini Province and Municipality and the Comitato Italiano Caffè.
Over 150 companies and institutions from all over the world have announced their participation in the sector’s premier appointment at world level and the entire Rimini area will be involved in the three days of culture with a program of Fringe events full of spectacular events on the most popular and most consumed beverage in the world, of which Italy is considered the most authoritative exponent.
During World of Coffee the World Barista Championship will be held, an event with worldwide prestige that every year elects the world’s best barista among the over 50 countries taking part; there is also great expectation on behalf of trade members for the World Brewers Cup, the World Coffee Roasting Championship and the Cezve/Ibrik Championship (for making Turkish coffee).
As well as these events, there will also be training sessions with meetings, seminars and workshops addressing the sector’s key players, ensuring an all-round insight on the coffee world.
As well as the trade members meeting at the expo centre, coffee experts, connoisseurs and lovers, occasional drinkers and real out-and-out “coffee maniacs” from Italy and abroad will flock to Rimini. In fact, the entire product chain will be featured at the expo centre, led by many of the coffee producing countries, such as Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, India, Brazil, Yemen, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, Indonesia… some of whom will take part with official delegations, others with brokers, traders and companies.
World of Coffee will also host technology and machinery for coffee processing, as well as previews of new venue formats, in which the beverage is at the centre of the concept.
During the press conference, David Veal (Executive Director SCAE), Patrizia Cecchi (Business Unit Manager, Rimini Fiera and Luigi Morello (SCAE Director/Event Committee Chair SCAE) described the features and new aspects of this edition of World of Coffee.
David Veal said, “We are thrilled to bring this exceptional event to the home of espresso and Rimini Riviera offers us the perfect setting for the three-day expo – I am very happy that Rimini Fiera agreed to be our partner: Its 35 years’ experience with SIGEP, the most important artisan pastry expo, its know-how in the food and beverage field and its undisputed expertise in the trade fair sector will give an inestimably valuable boost to World of Coffee”.
Patrizia Cecchi added, “We are proud to host and participate in an event of extraordinary international importance and extreme completeness such as World of Coffee. Rimini Fiera has two points to its credit: having brought the event to Italy and having been able to extend the event, traditionally dedicated to trade members and technicians from the sector, to include a wider public of coffee lovers and connoisseurs, involving the entire Rimini area in a spectacular three-day event. The prestigious partnership with SCAE, the premier international association in the coffee world, confirms our role as a truly important player in the Italian HoReCa sector, acknowledging our expertise and key role with companies and trade members.”
Luigi Morello explained, “World of Coffee is a great opportunity for all the sector’s companies – particularly Italian ones – and their numerous participation in the event clearly confirms how trade members have managed to take full advantage of this unique unrepeatable opportunity for Italy and the entire coffee world.”
