MILAN – The world coffee trade was hard hit by the pandemic during the month of May. According to the latest Ico statistics, global coffee shipments fell to 10.49 million bags in May: a 14.6% decrease over the same month last year.
Arabica shipments fell by almost 20%; exports of Brazilian Naturals were down by 25.7%, while those of Colombian Milds and Other Milds dropped by 13.4% and 14.4% respectively. Shipments of Robusta were down by 5.2%.
Most coffee exporting countries saw a sharp decrease in volumes, with the only notable exception of Ethiopia and Uganda.
