SAO PAULO, SAINT-BARTHELEMY, France and ZURICH – Wine.com.br, the biggest online merchant for wine and beer in Latin America and the third largest company of its kind in the world, today announced two major international acquisitions in the areas of manufacture and sale of high-tech coffee-capsule systems.
The Brazilian company, whose main shareholder is e.Bricks Digital, has acquired Monodor Patents SA, a company specializing in patents, research and development of coffee-capsule systems, and Mocoffee(TM), one of the leading worldwide suppliers of coffee-capsule products and coffee as well as hot-beverage solutions for consumers and the B2B world.
In becoming a brand under the Wine.com.br umbrella, Mocoffee will thus begin operating worldwide in the coffee-capsule market. The products of this company, which works with market leaders in Switzerland, France and Australia, will be launched and marketed in Brazil.
Mocoffee is already present in 17 countries through a series of agreements with its existing partners, and intends to increase its international presence over the coming years.
“Brazil is the world’s largest producer and exporter of coffee beans. I am convinced that through this venture we can contribute towards promoting products which are the very essence of our country.
More importantly, we’re sending out the message that Mocoffee is a brand that is an ideal blend of Brazilian talent with Swiss precision and technology”, said Rogerio Salume, CEO of Wine.com.br.
The acquisition aims at enabling the purchased companies to grow in their market segment by offering new experiences in coffee-capsule consumption, while also increasing operational synergies and taking advantage of the comprehensive digital-platform expertise Wine.com.br has developed for its online wine and beer sales.
“The partnership further increases the customer-oriented approach of Wine.com.br and underpins our belief that the digital age is transforming the consumption industries, bringing value and efficiency to the sector,” said Fabio Bruggioni, CEO of e.Bricks Digital.
Eric Favre left Nespresso(TM) to be free to develop his capsule system further, and founded Monodor SA in 1991.
According to him, “since then he has tirelessly innovated, improving the system by inverting the Nespresso(TM) design both to refine the coffee flavours and to reduce the ecological impact, especially by eliminating aluminium waste”.
As a consequence of the acquisition by Wine.com.br, Eric Favre has resigned from the Monodor and Mocoffee companies.
